Description

is the proud owner of Moondancer, telepath extroidinaire. There's a rouch sketch of this somehwere that I might slip into scraps of this. Scanned and painted on a single layer in Photoshop. Whee.

<edit>

I was in a rush this morning because...yeah...life decided to explode on us here. o.o But I wanted to explain a little bit more about this particular piece of work.

To date, I think it is one of my favorite pieces. When I've shown it to people here at home, alongside some of the other pictures I've worked on...she gets a lot of attention, but generally is not the favorite. But...she is MY favorite. I"m not sure why it is that I find myself so drawn to this character really. If you follow her public popularity...she is not a comon favorite. But she's tough, and determined, and oh so loyal. Moondancer's also American Indian. I love that about her. None of my characters are. I don't know why that is, as I'm nearly half myself. They just aren't. I never really considered nationality really...since nations don't exactly exist in the world my story takes place in. But MD's American Indian... and the opportunity to draw her... and paint her. Yeah. How could I resist. And she's a telepath...which is just plain cool. LOL. They're my favorites in all the stuff I like to view and read at any rate.

But it's the way the piece came together really. I sketched her out, and really should go back and do a full detail on her. Scanning the sketch, I decided to challenge myself to paint her out on a single layer with no ink lines. I Like using inklines to block out sections of my paintings... I'll freely admit. By the time I'm finishing a picture the inks are gone and all the layers have been merged and i'm just painting away...but I like having those ink lines there at the beginning. My own little stepping stone I guess. I didnt' do that this time though, I just painted. ...and she turned out to be more beautiful than I had ever hoped.

I dunno... I think she turned out to be really beautiful. I suppose now that I've learned a few more tricks, there are a couple things I could improve upon...but I still have my .psd files and can do that easily. :) So I envision her getting little improvements as time goes on. It just has to be because out of all my work recently... this is one of the ones I love the most. :)

I love this image too, expecially the colours, -the way her hair and lips work together to give dimension and -the blue from her (pants/skirt) working w/her eyes and ear-ring.

most of all I like the subtleness in her positioning. the way she is so open and outgoing through her eyes (and what they witness) and I love the way that her legs come up to almost meet them, (and it seems, want to cover them), this inner shyness that is exposed but in no way as to suggest the girl is not confident, just, stronger in her own sanctuary.

p.s. I'd love to see some more of your sketches coloured also. You create great shapes and space in your sketches. maybe you should have a play around w/CorelPainter also, and have you played around w/any vector programs? You could then simplify/stylize your shapes further. just a thought.

good stuff:D
